How did Taiwan become, in just a few decades, an indispensable player in the global semiconductor industry? And what cooperation can be built today between Taiwan, France and the Grenoble ecosystem?

On Tuesday 20 October, Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) and AAFT AURA (Franco-Taiwanese Alliance Association, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) invite you to a special evening around the documentary “A Chip Odyssey” (造山者-世紀的賭注) by Taiwanese director HSIAO Chu-chen (蕭菊貞). The film retraces the human, scientific and industrial adventure behind the birth and growth of Taiwan's semiconductor industry.

Round table

The screening will be followed by a round table with representatives of:

  • CEA-Leti, Grenoble's major research institute for microelectronics and semiconductors;
  • Quobly, a Grenoble quantum technology company;
  • Université Grenoble Alpes;
  • and Mr Cheng-Hong Shen (沈真宏), Director of the Taipei Office in Aix-en-Provence.

Representatives of local authorities, academia, research laboratories and businesses will also attend.

Buffet dinner and flavours of Taiwan

The evening will continue with a buffet dinner, including a tasting of Taiwanese teas and dried fruit from Tainan, thanks to the support of the Tainan City Government Agriculture Bureau.

Free registration is required: bit.ly/uga_inscription (opens in a new tab). Feel free to share the event, especially with students, researchers, engineers, innovation professionals and anyone curious to better understand Taiwan and the global semiconductor industry.

Co-organised by Université Grenoble Alpes and AAFT AURA, in coordination with the Office of the President of UGA, with the support of the Taipei Representative Office in France – Aix-en-Provence Office, the French Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce and the Tainan City Government Agriculture Bureau.
